Title of the document Description Date Activity event Third Wave of Experiments on the SoftFIRE Testbed In this white paper, the set of experiments that were successfully deployed on the SoftFIRE platform during its 3rdWave of Experiments are briefly presented. In doing so, the intention is to present what has been achieved by experimenters on the platform during the Project’s 2nd year, and the types of NFV/SDN experiments that were executed on the platform. The Project accommodated many more experiments in its 3rd Wave, as compared to the previous waves, thanks to its newly developed Middleware and upgraded platform services. This made it possible to support a variety of experiments on different 5G applications and use cases. The white paper presents summaries of the architecture, experimentation, and contributions of these experiments. June 2018 Virtual 5G Networks in SoftFIRE This white paper presents the virtual 5G core networks provided by SoftFIRE to its experimenters. The features and structure of the core network technologies are briefly explained, also providing basic information on the supporting technologies in SoftFIRE that enable virtual 5G core network operations. April 2018 Virtual Security Functions on a Federated and Orchestrated Virtualisation Testbed This white paper presents SoftFIRE’s innovative approach in which virtual security functions are provided to its experimenters. The paper describes the Security as a Service approach, and then outlines how it is realised to integrate virtual security functions with experimenter network services. The paper is complementary in context to the Project’s online documentation, providing motivations and use cases for this approach, which is widely applicable to similar virtualisation testbed environments. April 2018 Second Wave of Experiments on the SoftFIRE Testbed In this white paper, the set of experiments that were successfully deployed on the SoftFIRE platform during its 2nd Wave of Experiments are briefly presented. In doing so, the intention is to present what has been achieved by experimenters on the platform during the Project’s 2nd year, and the types of NFV/SDN experiments that were executed on the platform. The Project accommodated many more experiments in its 2nd Wave, as compared to the previous wave, thanks to its newly developed Middleware. This made it possible to support a variety of experiments on different 5G applications and use cases. The white paper presents summaries of the architecture, experimentation, and contributions of these experiments. April 2018 First Wave of Experiments on the SoftFIRE Testbed In this white paper, the set of experiments that were successfully deployed on the SoftFIRE platform during its 1st Wave of Experiments are briefly presented. In doing so, the intention is to present what has been achieved by experimenters on the platform during the Project’s first year, and the types of NFV/SDN experiments that were executed on the platform. The white paper presents summaries of the architecture, experimentation, and contributions of these experiments. March 2018 Programmability with NFV and SDN in SoftFIRE This white paper describes how the SoftFIRE middleware is organized in order to support the programmability needs of experimenters. It provides also a description of the functionalities, services, and APIs that can be used in order to program the Federated Testbed features March 2018 5G Mobile Core Network Slicing on an Orchestrated and Virtualised Infrastructure This white paper outlines the mobile core network slicing technology provided by SoftFIRE to its experimenters. The network slices that were developed in SoftFIRE based on 5G architecture are presented, providing details of the virtualisation packages. In addition, description of its usage and other solutions developed by Experimenters are presented. Finally, the white paper presents concluding remarks and some recommendations for future solutions. December 2017 SoftFIRE Approach to Experiment Management Why and How This white paper describes the SoftFIRE approach to experiment management. It provides a description of why and how the FIRE tools have been substituted with new TOSCA based functionalities and how to use them. This whitepaper goal is to promote some discussion within the FIRE community (and outside) on how to support the experiments in a virtualised environment. June 2017 Constructing a Federated Testbed and an Orchestrated Virtualisation Infrastructure This whitepaper describes a technical overview of the federated virtualised infrastructure provided by SoftFIRE, outlining its capabilities, and sharing the experiences gained in building such infrastructure.
